Highlights of the flemish and dutch painting in the Museum of Fine Arts in Vienna

The Viennese Breughel collection is the largest in the world. Peter Breughel criticised the political und religious situations in his country with his vivid representations of peasant life, e.g. in his despictions of Dutch proverbs. The Kunsthistorische Museum also owns, among others, many works of Rembrandt and Rubens.

The guided tour throuhg the masterpieces of the Kunsthistorisches Museum gives you an overview of the development of the most famous italian painters. The Liechtenstein family collected during many generations art as a noble obligation to promote artists and understood themselves as Maecenas. You can feel this unique baroque athmosphere in the recent restored garden palace. One of the most important and largest private collections of art, the collection of Prince Hans-Adam of and to Liechtenstein, gives you an overview from the art of the renaissance style to the austrian romantic. The Liechtenstein Palace has been restored for the last ten years and gives you today a unique impression in art and culture of that period.

Hofburg Treasury – Insignia of the Austrian Empire

Beside the private crowns and orders of the ruling Habsburg family this museum houses the original octagonal Crown of the Holy Roman Empire dating back to the year 950. The twelve precious stones on the front plate symbolise the apostles. Highlights of our guided tour through the museum of the Treasury are the precious stones of the Order of the Golden Fleece, the coronation vestments, the cradle of the king of Rome, the only sun of Napoleon, the biggest emerald in the world and amazing secular and ecclesiastical treasuries from the early middleages until today.

Belvedere Palace: The summer residence of a genius

The view from the Upper Belvedere is the most beautiful one on the city of Vienna. The Lower Belvedere with the stalls and the former palm house was the main summer residence of Prince Eugen of Savoy, whereas the Upper Belvedere the place for lovely balls and feasts was.The guided tour throug this unique baroque architecture and its huge garden gives you an idea about the life of one of the most famous generals and maecenas of the early 18th century in Europe.

From the Austrian Empire to the small Republic of Austria
Overview of the collection of the Military history Museum

With the end of the monarchy in 1918 started the only twenty years lasting period of the 1st Republic of Austria. World economic crisis and civil war lead to the national catastroph of the german annection in 1938. After World War two Austria was occupied the next 10 years by the four allied troops, Soviet Union, United States, France, Great Britain. The Cold War and the miracle of the State Treaty in 1955 is the last part of my guided tour through the Military History Museum in Vienna.

Gustav Klimt and his Art in the Austrian Painting Gallery in the Upper Belvedere

Gustav Klimt was the most famous painter around 1900 in Vienna. His paintings with lovely ornamnets, golden leaves and precious materials express endless harmony and personal fullfillment. Beside his depictions of women of the upper class his paintings of the idyllic landscapes around the lakedistrict of the countryside in Upper Austria became typical for the Art Nouveau Style in Vienna.

Albrecht Dürer an the renaissance style north of the alps

This guided tour of art shows you the german renaissance style. Albrecht Dürer, born in Nuremberg in south germany, made after his academic studies several travels to north italy an the city of Venice and therefore came early in contact with the italian eearly renaissance style. In his paintings he was influenced by the italian renaissance style as well as the german late gothic stlye and created a new renaissance style north of the Alps.
